Description
Araikkal Naavatta (Gothumai & Siruthaniyam) is a traditional South Indian food blend combining Gothumai (wheat) and Siruthaniyam (small millets). This combination is nutritious and is often used for porridge, or as a base for making pancakes or dosas.
✅ Key Ingredients Overview:
Gothumai = Wheat – rich in fiber and nutrients
Siruthaniyam = Millets – a group of small, nutrient-dense ancient grains like saamai, kuthiraivali, thinai, varagu, etc.
Naavatta = A combination or multigrain mix
Usage instructions:
Prepare the Batter: In a mixing bowl, add 1 cup of Naavatta mix and slowly add water, stirring to form a smooth batter with a consistency similar to dosa batter (not too thick or thin).
Rest the Batter: Allow the batter to rest for about 10-15 minutes (optional).
Heat the Griddle: Heat a non-stick griddle or tava on medium heat.
Pour the Batter: Pour a ladleful of batter onto the griddle and spread it in a circular motion to form a thin dosa.
Cook: Drizzle some oil or ghee around the edges of the dosa. Let it cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the edges turn golden brown.
Flip (Optional): You can flip the dosa to cook the other side for an additional minute. Traditionally, Naavatta dosas are enjoyed crispy without flipping.
Serve: Serve the dosa hot with coconut chutney or sambar.
