Mappillai Samba is a traditional and indigenous rice variety native to Tamil Nadu, India. Also known as the "Bridegroom's Rice," it gets its name from an ancient practice where this rice was served to newlywed grooms to boost strength and stamina.
This red-colored rice is rich in nutrients, especially iron and antioxidants. It has a slightly coarse texture and earthy flavor, making it suitable for preparing traditional South Indian dishes like idli, dosa, and kanji (porridge). Mappillai Samba is unpolished and naturally grown, often cultivated without chemical pesticides.
